Cody Gakpo was confirmed to be in contention to make his debut outing in the Liverpool shirt against Wolves in Saturday’s FA Cup third round clash at Anfield.
Gakpo completed the formalities of his transfer to the Reds from PSV Eindhoven at the start of the winter transfer window and linked up with his new teammates for training at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre earlier in the week.
Speaking to reporters in the pre match presser ahead of the weekend’s home tie in the FA Cup, Klopp revealed that the new signing could be set for his debut as the Liverpool manager looks to make up for the absence of his injured attacking players.
“Yes, he is in contention. He will be involved in the squad, of course. How exactly we will have to decide in the next few hours, but that’s fine.
“First impressions of him are brilliant. With all these things, injured strikers and stuff like this, then you see a guy who is obviously a natural footballer on the pitch and knows where the goal is, it is a lift for everybody.
“So, that’s cool and somehow he will be involved, definitely.”
The Holland international, who had enjoyed terrific campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup for the Orange, was announced as a Liverpool player on Boxing Day with the Reds pipping Manchester United to his signature.
His arrival on Merseyside will come as a much-needed boost for Klopp whose attacking duo in Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have been sidelined for the majority of the season with injury troubles.
