Virgil van Dijk returns to the Liverpool XI for Saturday’s game against Newcastle United in the only change from the side that defeated Everton on Monday in the derby.
Joel Matip gives way for Matip
Matip has looked out of sorts in recent weeks and he is the one who gives way for Van Dijk who partners up with Joe Gomez in the heart of the Liverpool backline.
Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson retain their starting berths on the team sheet to feature in the full-back roles.
Diogo Jota remains on the bench
Jota, who featured off the bench in the derby win over Everton earlier this week, was expected to earn a recall to replace Darwin Nunez in the No.9 role.
Nunez, however, continues to operate as the focal point of attack with Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo for company in the front line.
