Curtis Jones to be given greater first-team role owing to Wijnaldum situation

Curtis Jones, the young Scouser in Jurgen Klopp’s first-team ranks at Anfield, is being tipped for a greater role in the Reds setup, according to reports from the Liverpool Echo.

With Gini Wijnaldum’s Anfield future being far from certain, and the Dutchman understood to having had no interest in penning a contract extension, it is believed that Liverpool FC will foster Jones’ development to a more advanced first-team role.

The midfield starlet has been given plenty of game-time in recent months, with the England U19 international even starting last weekend’s 3-0 win against Leicester City, putting in a solid showing in the centre of the park for his boyhood side.

Accounting for skipper Jordan Henderson’s absence against the Foxes, Jones was springy in his dominant midfield showing and match highlights do indicate that the player was confident of trying an effort on goal every now and then.

Jones, by all means, presents himself as a very credible future star for the Merseysiders and what remains to be seen is whether the teenage midfielder can sustain this rich vein of momentum going ahead and emulate his childhood idol and club legend Steven Gerrard’s Anfield legacy.
