‘De Bruyne would be the perfect fit for Liverpool’- Former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore

Ex-Liverpool FC player Stan Collymore believes that the potential addition of Kevin de Bruyne to the Liverpool FC squad will make the latter a truly world-class side in every aspect of the game.

De Bruyne was in scintillating form last season for the Reds’ arch-rivals Manchester City with the Belgian international registering as many as 20 assists over the course of the Premier League campaign for Pep Guardiola’s men. Besides that, the 29-year old also scored 16 times across all competitions.

Collymore expressed hope of his former side attempting to make a move for the 2019-20 PFA Player of the Year in the future to strengthen the Anfield outfit’s midfield department.

“Having a nibble at De Bruyne ought to be a no-brainer for Liverpool because he would make a midfield that was excellent last season even better.

“Most Liverpool fans would tell you their midfield is 8/10 as things stand, compared to rearguard and forward lines that are 9/10. To go on and truly dominate at home and in Europe, Liverpool are going to need more goals and assists from midfield.

The 29-year old Belgian has established his credentials of being one of the best players in world football at the moment with his acute vision and long-range strikes. Moreover, he was among a handful of star players that were on top form for Manchester City’s otherwise disappointing league campaign last season.

Collymore insisted that the ex-Chelsea playmaker join a club whose stature exceeds that of Pep Guardiola’s side. According to former English international, De Bruyne should sign for either Real Madrid or FC Barcelona, besides the Reds, to achieve greatness in his already glittering career on the pitch.

“But that makes me wonder: Isn’t it time he tested himself at Real Madrid, a rejuvenated Barcelona or – here’s one to put the cat among the pigeons – Liverpool?

“De Bruyne hasn’t yet played for a massive club because Chelsea and Manchester City come with B-grade expectations. At Wolfsburg, it’s a C and Belgium are more of a dark horse than front-runner.

“The only way he can really stamp his greatness on the game is by joining a club at which he’d have A* expectations and, at the height of his powers, there isn’t a better time for him to do that. De Bruyne would be the perfect fit for Liverpool.

Certainty, Liverpool FC’s chances of securing the Belgian midfielder’s singings are none to zero considering that he will be available for a skyrocketing price and the animosity between Jurgen Klopp’s side and Manchester City. However, the presence of De Bruyne in the Reds’ playing XI is certainly a daunting one.
