Former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol has admitted that Ajax center back Matthijs De Ligt and Leicester City midfielder James Maddison would be two great additions for Jurgen Klopp’s outfit for the next season.
Liverpool would feel really tough on themselves after recording the most successful season in the history of the club since it was formed back in 1892. But Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City was crowned as champions of England as they won the title by just one point after an incredible season.
The Reds did win the Champions League following a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the final in Madrid. Liverpool brought back the European Cup to Anfield for the sixth time in their illustrious history but Jurgen Klopp now wants to dethrone Manchester City and end Pep Guardiola’s dominance in the Premier League.
However, Liverpool is still not expected to do much business in the summer transfer window but ex-Liverpool star Steve Nicol would like the club to make two big-name signings.
While speaking to ESPN, the 57-year-old former Scottish international explained that Liverpool should add some quality to their squad stating that Matthijs De Ligt and James Maddison would be ideal signings for Liverpool.
Nicol said, “Yes they could do with signing some players. If you have a wish list, then my wish list would be another center-back. Somebody like De Ligt I think would be incredible. I also would like somebody in the middle of the park who can do a little bit more than getting the ball back. Somebody like a James Maddison who has the ability to pick a pass and to score a goal”
