Aston Villa boss Dean Smith has expressed hope of his side posing as a tough opponent for the upcoming visit of Liverpool FC to Villa Park on Sunday.
Both sides have maintained a 100 per cent record in the Premier League so far, with the Reds having played a game more than Smith’s side, however, the latter have been impressive too of late in their on-field showings compared to last season’s bare survival from relegation.
The Midlands-based outfit have dipped in the transfer market to sign a number of quality players such as ex-Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez, who famously secured his former club’s victory over Jurgen Klopp’s men in the FA Community Shield, and club-record signing Ollie Watkins.
However, Liverpool FC’s visit will be considered as one of the most difficult fixtures for Villa, taking into account the Reds’ brilliant league form in recent times, something which has been noted by Smith during his pre-match interview to avfc.com, despite him admitting that a side of Liverpool FC’s calibre were beatable too on their day.
“Everybody is beatable on the day. We’ve just got beaten by a Championship team, so that proves everybody is beatable.
“Their cumulative record over the past two seasons is incredible with the points tally that they’ve got. Them and Manchester City have been way out ahead of everybody over the last two years.
“It will be a really tough game and they’ve had a good start to the season, but there’s no reason why we can’t feel that we’re more athletic and robust than the team that faced them last season.
