Diogo Jota expressed his delight at having secured the distinction of scoring Liverpool FC’s 10,000th goal in the club’s famed history with his opening strike against Tuesday nights opponents Midtjylland, despite admitting that he was even happier at his new side clinching an important victory at home in the Champions League group stage fixture.
The Liverpool FC No.20 scored his third goal for the Reds since his arrival at Anfield from Wolves this summer against Midtjylland in the 55th minute, a strike that brought up the Merseyside giants’ 10,000th goal across all competitions in the 128-year-old history.
When asked to comment on his landmark strike by BT Sport, Jota outlined his focus was on ensuring the Reds clinched all three points in the Group D fixture but was thrilled with having found the back of the net.
“Well it’s a start. Obviously I’m happy to score and to help the team to achieve the win.
“Achieving that mark is always a good thing but I’m more happy with the victory today.
“After a good away win, it’s important to keep on adding points and we did our job. We get the three points, that’s most important, and now we [need to be] ready for the next game.”

Jota has been in flying form in front of the goal of late, and him opening the scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s men on Tuesday night came on the back of his match-winning goal over the past weekend against Sheffield United in the Premier League.
