Signing Diogo Jota from Wolves in this summer’s transfer window eased Jurgen Klopp’s worries of injuries to the Merseysider’s famed attacking trio of Mohammad Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino explained the Liverpool FC boss ahead of his side playing hosts to Jota’s old club Wolves on Sunday.
The Salah-Mane-Firmino trio had been fielded relentlessly by Klopp in the Liverpool FC colours over the last few seasons, with the forwards establishing world-class credentials as a result of their superb showings. However, the trio were rarely afforded any rest with Klopp’s men competing across all fronts in the Premier League as well as in Europe.
‘For us it was the most important thing so we didn’t have to bite our nails pretty much each game and hope somehow they (the forwards) came through and we could bring them into the next game,’ he said, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
‘At the moment the front three is the only position where we have more players than we can line up. All the other positions are pretty much who can walk will play or it will be a kid.’
Klopp’s remarks does suggest that the Reds were looking to bolster their first-team attacking options this past summer with the likes of Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri faltering in form and facing uncertain game-time owing to persistent injuries.
Jota’s purchase by the Premeir League holders has been termed as one of the best signings of the summer, with the Portguese international displaying a tremendous streak of form in front of the goal since his move up the pecking order in the Liverpool FC lineup.
