Divock Origi has clocked just a minute of league action this season for Liverpool FC, and with the Belgian international forward missing from the Reds matchday squad over the last weekend, questions were raised over Origi’s future at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp, however, played down speculation of Origi being injured for the game against Wolves, with the German coach insisting that despite the Belgian striker being in ‘good shape’, including him in the 18-man squad for the Anfield showdown on Sunday was not possible due to tactical reasons.
“Div is not injured,” Klopp explained, as quoted by Liverpool.com.
“Obviously we don’t have a lot of players, but our offensive options are better than in other areas.
“So I cannot just bring three strikers, or very offensive players, in the squad when all the things can happen all over the pitch.
“Div is in good shape, but was not in the squad in the Premier League last time.”
Origi has fallen down massively in the Liverpool FC pecking order following the arrivals of Takumi Minamino and Diogo Jota at the Merseyside outfit this year, and the latter’s brilliant run of form looks set to sideline Origi to the fringes of Jurgen Klopp’s first-team ranks over the course of this season.
The 25-year-old was handed a rare start by Klopp in last month’s Champions League at home to Atalanta, but the Belgian put in a terrible shift upfront as the Merseysiders were subject to a 2-0 defeat by their Italian visitors.
