Does Liverpool’s midfield is in need of Thiago Alcantara’s addition?

Speculation linking Thiago Alcantara with a move to Liverpool FC has been rife over the past few months. The Bayern Munich midfield maestro is understood to very eager on joining the Anfield giants in this summer’s transfer window.

However, as talks continue between the Premier League champions and the Bundesliga giants, it has come to be believed that there is some hesitation on part of Jurgen Klopp, the boss of the Merseyside outfit, to finalize Thiago’s deal due to the presence of capable first-team midfield options at his disposal.

The combination of Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum, and Fabinho has been established as the preferred midfield trio of the Liverpool FC playing XI as witnessed last season. All three players suit Klopp’s style of play and have flourished in their roles under the German coach.

Moreover, Naby Keita, who arrived at Anfield two summers back to much fanfare, has finally got off to a deserved round of applause from the club’s fanbase. The 25-year old was phenomenal in his displays on the pitch during the latter stages of the 2019-20 league campaign for the Reds.

In Henderson’s absence, Keita showed great maturity in his game and filled in the creativity in Liverpool FC’s midfield that is so often found lacking. He soon earned plaudits from his coach Jurgen Klopp, who has hinted on giving greater first-team involvement to the Guinean international in the coming season.

Moreover, there is Alex Oxlade Chamberlain who too like Keita is poised to have a more advanced role in the Reds side next season. It has to be noted that the 2019-20 season was Chamberlain’s first whole campaign in the Liverpool FC shirt since he signed for Jurgen Klopp’s side back in 2018. The English international has shown some glimpses of his real talent in the center of the park and would be an important asset for Klopp going ahead into the 2020-21 campaign.

Besides the aforementioned names, there is Liverpool FC’s very own ‘Mr. Dependable’ James Milner. The highly versatile 34-year old is still very much the workhorse he was when he made his debut as a 16-year old for Leeds United in 2003. Milner remains a leader both on and off the pitch for Jurgen Klopp’s men, something that has so often been acknowledged by the Liverpool FC boss.

The ex-Manchester City man is a favourite among the Reds fanbase who will be delighted on the player starting his sixth year with the Anfield outfit. Milner has established his reputation as a tireless midfield presence who could be fielded in the full-back spot as well.

Amidst this midfield conundrum at the heart of the Premier League champion’s preparation for the upcoming 2020-21 season that will see Jurgen Klopp’s men compete in as many as five competitions, Thiago Alcantara’s name is one that has emerged as the Reds’ primary target in this summer’s transfer window, according to reports.

The Spanish international’s talent on the footballing stage is undoubtedly full of class, as is evident by his displays in the centre of the park for the Bayern Munich side that are on the verge of completing a treble this season.

Thiago’s addition to the Merseyside giants ahead of the upcoming season could surely make the Liverpool FC side unstoppable in every aspect of the modern game. The Spanish international’s dribbling ability is surpassed by very few in world football and combined with his acute vision to find a pass, Jurgen Klopp’s style of play at Anfield would surely be a cakewalk for the La Masia product.

However, the question that is so often posed upon rumours linking Thiago with a move to the Merseyside this summer is who will drop out of Klopp’s playing XI to accommodate the arrival of the 29-year old Spaniard.

Recent speculation has suggested that Dutch international Wijnaldum could be on his way out of Anfield as early as next season. With no progress made by the Reds over extending the 29-year old’s existing deal that is set to expire next summer, Wijnaldum is expected to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side with FC Barcelona being considered a frontrunner in the race to secure the Dutchman’s services.

It will truly be a treat to watch Thiago play alongside the likes of Salah, Mane, Firmino, and Van Dijk in the Liverpool FC shirt come next season if an impending deal for the Spaniard is confirmed this summer. The Bayern star midfielder’s talent will surely be put to test in the Premier League, however, the 29-year old’s experience of playing for the best teams in the world will work in his favour of ensuring a great run of form for Klopp’s side.
