Eight Liverpool players bag nominations for the UEFA Team of the Year accolade

As many as eight of the stars in Jurgen Klopp’s side find themselves shortlisted for the year-end UEFA honours in the Team of the Year category.

The defensive quartet of Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander Arnold, and Andy Robertson are nominated, besides the duo of Liverpool FC skipper Jordan Henderson and summer signing Thiago Alcantara being shortlisted in the midfielders category, one which features names like Manchester City talisman Kevin De Bruyne and last season’s UCL winners Bayern Munich’s playmaker Thomas Muller.

Both Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane are also among a rich list of attacking nominees announced by UEFA as the Reds star duo will go up against fellow forwards such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Neymar.

Liverpool FC’s 2019-20 UEFA Champions League campaign was cut short with a heartbreaking two-legged loss to Atletico Madrid earlier this year, however, up to that point in the Last-16 of the competition, the Merseysiders had been influential in their showings across the group stage fixtures.

Klopp’s men have been quite impressive this season as well in Europe, securing qualification to the Last-16 on Tuesday night with a well-deserved 1-0 win over Ajax.
