Borussia Monchengladbach star midfielder Florian Neuhaus has been described as a player that Liverpool FC are in need of in light of their miserable title-defense campaign by former Red Emile Heskey.
The 24-year-old Neuhaus has been monitored by Jurgen Klopp’s side heading into this summer with the Anfield giants keen on bolstering their first-team ranks after what has been a disastrous campaign on all fronts.
Speaking to HITC, Heskey drew comparisons between Neuhaus’ style of play and that of former Liverpool FC fan-favourite Philippe Coutinho with the ex-England foward saying that the Merseyside Reds lacked a player who could be a creative influence on the pitch.
“I think they’ve missed that (sort of player) since Coutinho. Someone who can get in those pockets, travel with the ball and start committing defenders to come out of those spaces which they can exploit,” said Heskey.
“We don’t really have that at this moment in time.
“I thought Curtis Jones could be one of those but when you’re in and out of the team, like he is, it’s difficult – especially when you’re a young lad as well!
“So someone like (Neuhaus) would suit Liverpool in the way that they play. Someone who can really drive with the ball.
“If you just sit in your zones, then it’s difficult to actually break teams down. If you can have someone with a bit of creativity, who starts pulling players all over the place, that’s what you need.”
Neuhaus has emerged as a leading candidate to arrive at Anfield in the forthcoming summer transfer window with the long-serving Gini Wijnaldum tipped to seal an exit upon the expiry of his current deal.
The Holland international has been unable to agree upon extended terms with Liverpool FC as he remains keen on being handed a major wage bump which is not sitting well with the club’s board.
