Former Liverpool FC man Emile Heskey has fired a warning to the Anfield giants over igniting their interest in long-term target Nacho Fernandez heading into this summer’s transfer window.
The Spanish centre-back is understood to have been scouted by Jurgen Klopp’s side with the Reds boss keen on adding to his defensive options ahead of the 2021-22 season.
Heskey, however, argues that despite his experience as a big-game player Fernandez’s age at 31 years presented himself to be merely a short-term cover for an injury-hit backline at Anfield.
In an interview with HITC, the ex-England international says that the Merseysiders should aim to bring in a player who has five to ten years to give as a first-team regular in the Reds shirt.
“A seasoned pro who reads the game very well. I could see why he’s being connected with Liverpool.
“But, when it comes to Liverpool, they probably need to look to the future too – someone who is a bit younger (Nacho is 31), who you know is going to give you five to ten years of proper service.
“Someone like that would be better.”
