Ex-Liverpool FC player warns Klopp against singing Mbappe

Former Red’s favorite Jason McAteer believes that Kylian Mbappe would not be a good addition to the current Liverpool FC squad. Mbappe, who plays for French giants PSG, had already scored 30 goals and assisted 17 times before the French League was wrapped up due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, and PSG were awarded the league title. Moreover, Mbappe also won the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France, playing a significant role in his nation’s victory, with sparkling performances throughout the tournament.

For a long time, the French superstar Mbappe has been linked with moves to Liverpool FC as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid. The attacker also expressed his fondness for the current Reds squad and their manager, Jurgen Klopp, claiming that the German coach was one of the best managers in the world and describing Liverpool FC’s current Premier League campaign as “ruthless”. However, McAteer has stated that it would not be a good time for Mbappe to seal a move to Liverpool FC. He added that in his opinion, he believes that the French attacker does not seem like a player who could adjust to Klopp’s system of tactics and play.

Instead, McAteer voiced his approval of Liverpool FC signing players such as Timo Werner and Jadon Sancho, both of whom play in the Bundesliga and have been linked with a move to Anfield in recent months. Despite the Reds being interested in securing the transfer of 21-year old Mbappe, the club’s former player McAteer has described the player as not being suitable for Liverpool FC’s style of play.

But the former Reds man has admitted that he believes Mbappe would be attracted with a move to the Premier League, with a host of clubs such as Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC being interested in signing the player.

Terming Mbappe’s current club PSG as unique, McAteer feels that failure to win the UEFA Champions League for them may influence Mbappe’s decision to look towards moving to the Premier League. The 21-year old sensation won the Golden Boot in Ligue 1 this season, pipping fellow Frenchman Wissam Ben Yedder to the award.
