Ex-Liverpool FC forward Rickie Lampard has expressed hope of the Merseyside club’s new Nike shirt deal playing a major part in Jurgen Klopp’s attempt to bring World Cup-winning forward Kylian Mbappe to Anfield in the coming years.
The Paris Saint-German attacker has been a constant source of rumor-mongering on part of the Reds in recent years. Reports suggest that Klopp is a massive fan of the young French international and dreams of making a big-money move for the player sometime in the future.
Former Southampton striker Lambert has now stated that Nike’s connections in world football may pave the path for Mbappe’s potential switch to Anfield from the Ligue 1 champions. The 21-year old’s endorsement with Nike runs until 2029, with the American suppliers paying him as much as £162 million over the ten-year deal.
“I was thinking with Nike taking over, every time you take over a team, they always have a marquee signing. I was hoping Mbappe or something.”
“But I think he is out of our reach, to be honest.”
However, it is understood that PSG are highly reluctant on letting their star signing depart the club for any other side across Europe. Mbappe remains pivotal to the French club’s desire to clinch the UEFA Champions League, something Thomas Tuchel’s men failed to do so after suffering a 1-0 loss in the finals of the competition to Bayern Munich last weekend.
Lambert too admitted that it would a near-impossible task for Liverpool FC to secure Mbappe’s signing. Even in the event of leaving PSG, the Frenchman is rumored to be keen on playing for Real Madrid. The Spanish giants are also equally keen on making the 21-year old the club’s marquee signing next summer.
