Fabinho has been one of the most influential performers this season for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC side in the wake of the ever-increasing tally of casualties on the injury front at Anfield.
Long-term layoffs for both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez has forced Klopp to draft Fabinho as a makeshift member of the Merseysiders’ four-man backline, and the Brazillian international has not disappointed one bit with his consistent run of solid showings at the heart of the defence.
Having made his 100th appearance for the Reds on Sunday in the 1-1 draw against West Brom, Fabinho sat down with Liverpool FC’s official website for an interview in which the 26-year-old detailed his journey towards sealing a much-publicised move to Anfield in the summer of 2018, a move which the Brazillian labelled as a ‘really special feeling’.
“For me personally, it was a really special feeling because in my career I always wanted to progress, so a move from Monaco to Liverpool was something great for this moment in my career,” the former Monaco midfielder said.
“So, on a personal level, it was a good day for me. I’d watched the Liverpool-Real Madrid game on TV and I was supporting Liverpool, but unfortunately, they didn’t win.
“That for me, though, was the beginning of a new history. I didn’t see anyone when I came to Melwood, which might have been a good thing because maybe they’d have been angry they’d lost the final, but it was a good moment for the club to play a Champions League final after a long time.
“And it was definitely a good day for me because I signed for this big club.”
Fabinho’s future in the Liverpool FC colours remains a highly-speculated topic as recent reports had indicated Jurgen Klopp’s eagerness to tie down the former AS Monaco man to a new long-term deal.
