Liverpool FC first-team star Fabinho, who has not featured for the Merseysiders since sustaining a minor hamstring injury blow at the end of October, could be in the mix to play Sunday’s game against Leicester City, hinted Jurgen Klopp in his pre-game interview.
The Brazillian international has slotted in at the centre-back spot for his side following long-term injury layoffs for both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, and if early reports of his return to first-team training are believed to be true, the player should be seen partnering Joel Matip at the heart of Liverpool FC’s backline over the weekend.
“Players have to train in the big training sessions with the team – in team training, how we call it – and not only once. If it’s really serious and we have no other players then maybe one session has to be enough from time to time, said Klopp, as quoted by Liverpoolfc.com.
“It doesn’t happen really often, I can’t remember when it happened last time. But usually you prepare the players not only for one game and that means they need to be part of it.
“Fabinho was part of that. What we make of that, we will see because I don’t know yet how he reacts and all that stuff. But Fabinho was part of the normal team training.
Klopp’s remarks do express hope of Fabinho featuring in the matchday squad for the Premier League clash at home to Brendan Rodger’s Leicester City side, one which has grabbed the top spot in the league standings after a solid start to the campaign.
However, with the Reds being just a point adrift of their weekend opponents at Anfield, Klopp and Co will be hoping for a standout showing in spite of an injury crisis adversely affecting the fate of the defending champions.
