FC Barcelona gaffer Ronald Koeman is understood to be confident on being reunited with his former Holland player Gini Wijnaldum at Nou Camp this summer.
Wijnaldum’s future at Anfield beyond the summer’s transfer window hangs in the balance, with the Dutchman having been unable to extend upon his current deal with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC as wages continue to play a stumbling block in the contract talks between the two parties.
The former Newcastle United man could well end up taking the exit door out of Anfield, reports suggest, with FC Barcelona the leading candidate to land the midfielder’s signing on a free transfer.
According to the Daily Mail, Koeman, who is midway through his first season in the top job at the Catalan giants, remains optimistic on fending off competition from any of the other interested clubs to secure Wijnaldum’s signature.
The 29-year-old Wijnaldum has refrained from going into much detail concerning his contract extension talks halting at Anfield as the Holland international seeks to be offered a much lucrative deal in order to commit his long-term future in the Liverpool FC colours.
