Fenerbahçe considering making a loan offer for Liverpool FC outcast Xherdan Shaqiri

Amid rumours suggesting that Xherdan Shaqiri is nearing a Liverpool FC exit, Fenerbahçe have expressed interest in signing the player. The Turkish side have offered to make a move for the 28-year old Shaqiri, however, on a loan deal. The Swiss international has just featured in seven Premier League games this season for the Reds.

An exit for Shaqiri has been looking certain for quite some while now, with the winger tumbling down the pecking order at Liverpool FC. Once an important first-team player and a brilliant squad-rotation option at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, the 28-year old has struggled with injuries and form this season.

The former Bayern Munich star has managed just three starts for the Merseyside giants in the current campaign. With just 181 Premier League minutes under his belt, the attacker has been on the fringes of the Reds’ squad.

With Shaqiri’s role marginalized significantly over the course of the season, Klopp has instead chosen to hand out greater first-team involvement to 17-year old wonderkid Harvey Elliot. The English starlet has been given considerable opportunities to display his talent on the pitch in the Premier League of late.

Moreover, Liverpool FC signing Takumi Minamino earlier this year meant that the Japan international would serve as a backup to Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane, a role performed by Shaqiri in the past.

Fenerbahçe’s approach for Shaqiri, however, has hit a contractual roadblock with the player. It is reported that the 28-year old attacker is unhappy with the wages being offered to him. As a result, Shaqiri is holding out in the hope of a better offer to come from the Turkish giants.

The winger has been reportedly been offered £35,000-a-week by the Turkish side.

However, Shaqiri is believed to be wanting a figure in the region of the £50,000 mark. Fenerbahçe are keen on pursuing negotiations with the player further and talks are expected to continue.

With the Swiss international’s current deal with Liverpool FC running until 2023, the Premier League giants could be looking to sell the winger on a permanent basis. However, for now, a loan deal for Shaqiri appears to be on the cards.
