Former England manager Sam Allardyce reckons Divock Origi should call it quits at Liverpool and make the move to Newcastle United.
Origi has been a bit-part player for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in recent campaigns and has failed to cement his berth on the team sheet for the Premier League heavyweights despite injuries in the attacking department.
The Belgian was on the scoresheet last time around Liverpool stepped out on the pitch in their first defeat of the new season at West Ham United with Origi coming off the bench to find the back of the net in a superb manner.
He had been retained beyond this summer’s transfer window by Klopp to much surprise with speculation rife that a host of clubs across Europe were keen on landing his signature and offer him regular minutes.
Sam Allardyce, while speaking to SportBIBLE, said that he always has backed Origi to leave the Liverpool camp and seek a greater first-team role elsewhere with Newcastle United being tipped as a prospective destination for the ex-Lille man.
“I’ve always thought Origi needs to leave Liverpool.”
“And budget-wise, he’d probably be a lot cheaper than a Harry Kane, for example.
“Even though he’s done a brilliant job for Liverpool, he needs to be a first-team player every week and perhaps Newcastle could give him that opportunity to flourish.”
