Former Reds attacker regrets not being able to shine for Liverpool FC

Former Liverpool FC player Luis Alberto has shouldered the blame for his poor showing in the Reds’ shirt. The Spanish midfielder was a Liverpool FC player between 2013 and 2016, however, failed to break into the first-team squad of the Merseyside club. Alberto then secured a move to Serie A giants Lazio in 2016 where the player has flourished in recent seasons.

The 27-year old Alberto was rather a shadow of his current stature as a player during his days at Liverpool FC. Joining the Reds from La Liga side Sevilla for a fee of £6.8 million, Liverpool FC supporters thought of Alberto as a great signing made by then Reds boss Brendan Rodgers. The Spaniard had impressed in his time at the youth teams of Sevilla.

However, the attacker just spent the 2013-14 season in entirety at Anfield, in which Liverpool FC finished runner ups in the Premier League to Manchester City. Appearing 12 games during the campaign, Alberto was unable to score a single goal for the Reds.

Failure to impress Rodgers led to the Liverpool FC coach loaning the Spaniard to Malaga and Deportivo La Coruna in consecutive seasons. The player did manage to regain his form while playing for both teams in the Spanish league. Alberto’s performances during the 2014-15 and 2015 16 season were the catalyst to Lazio making an approach for him.

And now Alberto has voiced some level of disappointment at not being able to shine for Liverpool FC. The Spanish international claimed that he was somewhat responsible for flopping for the Reds. Moreover, the Lazio star added that his adaptation to the playing style in the Premier League happened a bit slower than expected.

However, since joining Lazio, Alberto has become one of the best players in the Serie A. The attacker has been a pivotal force behind Lazio’s title-challenge to Juventus this season in the Italian league. With six goals and 16 assists to his name, the 27-year old Alberto has been in fine form throughout the 2019-20 season.
