Former Reds star Philippe Coutinho seeks return to Anfield in the summer

Former Liverpool FC talisman Philippe Coutinho is believed to have spoken with Reds manager Jurgen Klopp on the phone with FC Barcelona player reported to request Klopp to sign him again for the Merseyside club.

Coutinho, who left Liverpool FC in January 2018, had been a fan-favourite among the Reds faithful prior to his acrimonious move to Spanish giants FC Barcelona. The flamboyant Brazilian attacker was known to have desperately urged for a move to Barcelona, which he had described as his dream side to play for. Moreover, the player had been known to shell out a bit of his own money in order to seal the transfer from Anfield to the Spanish side.

After signing for FC Barcelona, Coutinho could not replicate his performances in a Reds shirt at the Spanish side. The player’s brilliance was seen on very few occasions while playing with Lionel Messi and Co., but Coutinho’s old form could not be resurrected while playing for the Blaugrana. A few good performances aside, the Brazillian international’s one-and-a-half-year stint at Camp Nou was largely a failure and could not justify his £105 million price tag.

FC Barcelona considered offloading the player last summer, however, decided upon letting Coutinho leave on a season-long loan at Bayern Munich. In Germany too, Coutinho could not recapture his old form and his time on the football pitch was curtailed by a succession of injury-related problems.

The player could not make an impact on the Bayern team, which continued triumphing in the absence of Coutinho. At the end of his loan spell at the German side, the Bundesliga champions chose not to activate their obligation to permanently buy the player which resulted in Countho heading back to Barcelona ahead of the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

Since Coutinho’s departure, the Reds have not shown a moment where it has been felt that they miss their former player who had been nicknamed “The Magician” by the Liverpool FC supporters.

The attacking trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohammad Salah have proved themselves to be more than capable of leading the Reds side to trophies in the recent seasons. However, if Coutinho desperately seeks a return to Anfield, it remains to be seen what decision is made Jurgen Klopp and most importantly how would the Liverpool FC supporters react to their hero-turned villain’s return.
