Franck Kessié downplays AC Milan exit talk amid Liverpool transfer speculation

AC Milan midfield star Franck Kessié has dismissed the recent talk that has gained ground of the Ivorian being close to leaving the Serie A giants amid Liverpool showing interest in securing his services this summer.

Kessié was rumoured to be one of the new targets on Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist at Anfield with the Reds gaffer on the hunt for a new midfield face to bring in after Gini Wijnaldum called it quits on Merseyside at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.

With Kessié presenting himself to be one of the top talents in his position for AC Milan this past season and with just a year remaining on his current deal at San Siro, speculation was rife that Liverpool will be eyeing up a cut-price deal for the player.

However, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, the Ivory Coast international has downplayed the rumours of his exit from AC Milan with the understanding being that the player was in talks with the clubs over extending his contract beyond the summer of 2022.

This is sure to come as a major blow on the transfer front to Liverpool who have been linked with a host of names across Europe but are yet to reach out to other clubs with a formal offer for their target players.
