Liverpool were held to a 2-2 stalemate by the Premier League’s new boys Fulham in an evenly-contested affair at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
MATCH PROCEEDINGS
The home side began the game on the front foot with dangerman Mitrovic causing trouble in the opening stages for the Liverpool backline.
Luis Diaz curled his effort into the back of the net only for the offside flag to be raised as Liverpool looked to counter the pressure on them by Fulham.
Marco Silva’s side got the lead they deserved with Neeskens Kebano’s sublime delivery into the box headed home by the lurking Mitrovic to make it 1-0 for the hosts heading into the break.
Kebano gave Liverpool another scare after his shot hit the post with the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp introducing summer signing Darwin Nunez off the bench.
Nunez made the impact he was brought on for with the striker producing a clever flick to level the scoreline after Mohamed Salah’s delivery from the right.
Fulham were awarded a spot kick as Virgil van Dijk tangled with Mitrovic with the latter clinical as ever to reclaim the advantage for his side.
Liverpool got their second goal of the game in the dying stages with a Nunez-Salah linkup allowing the Egyptian winger to score from close range.
