Gary Lineker believes Liverpool could be forced to concede more goals than before

Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to sound out a warning to Liverpool FC that they would be in a position to concede more goals than before if the Reds continue to play a higher line of defence in the future.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have resorted to such a style of play, something that has not gone unnoticed with the viewers since the 2020-21 Premier League season kicked off. However, the Merseyside outfit have on the receiving end of opposition attacks as well, with opening day visitors at Anfield, Leeds United, scoring three past Virgil van Dijk and Co.

Even in the recent fixture against Arsenal, despite the Reds chalking out a well-deserved 3-1 win over Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, a horrible moment of a defensive error from the otherwise trustworthy Andy Robertson saw Arsenal take the lead in the opening third of the game.

Lineker’s post on his Twitter handle expresses the widely circulated opinion that Jurgen Klopp’s gegenpressing form of play, commonly associated with Liverpool FC, allows the two full-backs in Arnold and Robertson to press high up the pitch, leaving the duo in no man’s land when required to trackback.

However, only time will tell whether the Premier League holders will regret their new defensive approach, but for now, with three wins out of as many games in a new season of top-flight football, Klopp will surely be delighted at his side’s title-defence objective.
