Gary Neville showers praise on Liverpool’s brilliant showing against Arsenal

Former Manchester United player and now Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville was largely generous in his praise for Liverpool FC following their convincing 3-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield, despite trailing the Gunners at one point due to a goal from Lacazette.

Neville, while speaking to Sky Sports, outlined the Reds’ prospects of defending their last season’s Premier League crown against Manchester City due to the latter’s dip in form that saw Pep Guardiola’s men stumble to a 5-2 defeat to Leicester City at home.

The ex-United full-back voiced praise for Liverpool FC’s midfielders for their superb showing against the Gunners, despite Jurgen Klopp being unable to call upon the duo of Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara, both of whom were sidelined due to injury issues.

“You can take Jordan Henderson and James Milner out, who used to be the workhorses of this team, and they are all workhorses now.

“Naby Keita is somebody who has taken a couple of years to get up to speed, but now you see him play and it looks like he’s getting there. Fabinho moves through the game and doesn’t break sweat. Georginio Wijnaldum is a player that you never really give him the credit, but he does everything really well.

New signing Diogo Jota’s off the bench showing against Arsenal also earned plaudits from Neville, who praised Liverpool FC for adding considerable strength to their first-team squad this summer on the back of their title-winning season across the 2019-20 Premier League campaign.

“The signings of Thiago Alcantara and Diogo Jota were big moves because it signalled intent. They needed to strengthen in midfield with somebody who can play, control the game and do something a little bit different to the rest of them, and then Jota up front, who provides a real quality back up to the front three, but doesn’t unnerve them to the point where they want to leave. It was a clever signing.
