Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum plays down title talk despite already holding an eight-point lead over Manchester City and has insisted Liverpool are not getting carried away by talk that this could finally be the season they win the Premier League title.
Liverpool extended their 5 point lead over Manchester City to 8 points after they beat in-form Leicester City 2-1 with James Milner scoring a stoppage-time penalty. Whereas their rivals faltered at home, losing 2-0 to Wolves.
But with only the Premier League only 8 matchdays old Wijnaldum is wary of Liverpool getting carried away,
‘We don’t want to think we are already champions. That would be a really wrong thing to do,’ Wijnaldum told Sky Sports.
‘I‘m sure the manager will keep us grounded and say that we just have to think about ourselves and try to play good and try to give 100 percent every week.
‘We just have to do what we did before and look at ourselves and not look too much to other teams because we don’t have an influence on other teams – we can’t control the performance of other teams.
‘We just have to make sure we are ready for the games that are to come and to make sure we are ready and try to have good results because we know that it can change quickly.
‘Then at the end of the season, we will see where we stand.’
Liverpool is odds on favorites to beat their old rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford when Premier League action resumes after the international break. With Manchester City facing a tough trip away to Crystal Palace where they have struggled in the past.
