German side leads race to sign out-of-favor Liverpool midfielder this summer

Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin are leading the race to sign Liverpool FC midfielder Marko Grujic on a permanent basis in this summer’s transfer window, according to reports.

Recent speculation had indicated that the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was willing to part ways with Grujic at the club permanently. The Serbian midfielder had spent the last two seasons on loan at the Berlin-based side.

Grujic, Klopp’s first signing for the Anfield giants, never really managed to force his way into the German’s first-team squad at the Merseyside club. The 23-year old, however, has been impressive in his showings abroad while on loan.

Hertha Berlin are attempting to sign the Serbian international on another loan deal this summer, reports suggest. However, this time a loan approach from the German club will include an obligation to buy the player next summer. But Liverpool FC are highly unlikely to accept any further loan bids for the 23-year old Grujic ahead of next season.

What works in the Reds’ favor is that Hertha Berlin are not the only side wanting to sign Grujic this summer. Eintracht Frankfurt and Borussia Moenchengladbach are believed to be equally keen on sealing a move for the ex-Red Star Belgrade man to the Bundesliga.
