Amid rampant interest from abroad including the likes of FC Barcelona and Inter Milan being keen on signing Gini Wijnaldum, the Dutch international refused to be drawn into the speculation concerning his long-term future in the Liverpool FC colours.
Speaking to reporters after Jurgen Klopp’s men stormed to a 4-0 home win over Wolves, a game which saw yet another emphatic midfielder showing from Wijnaldum, the player was reluctant to speak much about his contract situation which continues to drag on since last summer.
“I already said in my previous interview, I don’t speak about my contract situation,” the Dutchman told Amazon Prime Video, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.
“I speak about the games, the performance, football, and the club should speak about my contract.”
“Of course there’s a connection, there was already a connection from the first moment that I came here. The supporters supported me a lot,” he continued.
“But like I said before, it’s not for me to speak about my contract right now. That’s something for the club to speak about.”

Despite the 29-year-old Wijanldum establishing himself as a real fan-favourite amongst the Kopites, the ex-Newcastle United man had earlier as well suggested he might be on the move away from Anfield come the summer of 2021.
With his deal expiring next summer, Klopp is understood to have been relegated to the choice of losing out on his key first-team regular for nothing with the Roland Koeman-led FC Barcelona registering interest in landing the in-demand star’s signature.
