Liverpool FC midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has played down talk of him agreeing upon a pre-contract agreement with long-term suitors FC Barcelona ahead of the summer transfer window.
The Holland international, who is currently away on international duty with the Orange, has been long linked with a move to Camp Nou with his Reds deal coming to a close in less than four months.
Recent reports had claimed that the 30-year-old had already signed terms with Ronald Koeman’s La Liga outfit and would be leaving Anfield at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
However, speaking to reporters while on press conference duty for the Dutch national team, Wijnaldum asserted that contrary to speculation, no such agreement was in place and that there was nothing new to report on the contract front with Liverpool FC.
“They will always talk about these things but as I’ve said on other occasions, I have no news still,” Wijnaldum said as quoted by the Echo.
Before he added: “They say this in the media but I have no news. When there is I will talk about it, but there isn’t.
“I’m here now to talk about the games against Turkey, Latvia and Gibraltar.”
Jurgen Klopp is believed to have failed in his repeated attempts to tie down his key midfield general to extended terms at Anfield as Wijnaldum stalled out for a major wage bump which was not acceptable to the Reds.
