FC Barcelona are reportedly glad by the delay being caused by Liverpool FC’s inclination not to extend improved terms to wantaway star Gini Wijnaldum.
The Dutch international’s current deal with the Anfield outfit comes to an end next summer, and the 29-year old remains one of the very few star players of Jurgen Klopp’s side not to have penned down a contract extension with Liverpool FC.
Wijnaldum was a key target for Barca this summer, however, despite the appointment of ex-Holland boss Ronald Koeman as the new manager for the Spanish giants, they were not able to lure away the midfielder from the Merseyside club.
Rumours persist that FC Barcelona will attempt to persuade the Reds into parting ways with Wijnaldum when the winter transfer window reopens in January on a cut-price deal, considering that the Dutchman becomes a free agent next summer.
For now, however, Wijnaldum is a central figure amongst Klopp’s midfield options at Liverpool FC and his revival of form is critical to the Reds bouncing back from the Villa defeat in the upcoming Merseyside derby over the weekend.
