Liverpool FC’s defensive showings have not suffered a blip in spite of the ever-increasing concerns on the injury front for Jurgen Klopp’s options at the back, believes Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire.
Maguire was a part of the Red Devils side that drew against Liverpool FC on Sunday in the high-billed top-of-the-table clash at Anfield, with the English international proving key to Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s men leaving Merseyside with a point in the bag.
For Liverpool FC, injury concerns prevented Joel Matip from being included in the XI that took the pitch over the weekend and taking the Cameroonian’s spot at the heart of the backline was skipper Jordan Henderson, who has often been slotted into the centre-back position as a makeshift option alongside fellow midfielder Fabinho.
Maguire, however, voiced praise for Henderson’s showing in defence as the former Leicester City man admitted that the Reds enjoyed the presence of a number of options to be fielded in their first-team plans amid the rising injury troubles for the Premier League holders.
“There is a lot of talk of Liverpool being without their first-choice centre-halves but they’ve had a great defensive record since these injuries.
“It just shows that they have lots of options there. Jordan’s gone in there and I’ve played with him numerous times and he can play in there.
“We knew they were short on centre-halves but like I said they’ve got lots of options,” said Maguire, as quoted by the Mirror.
Henderson’s positional shift on the pitch has left many Liverpool FC fans calling out Klopp and Co. to make moves in the ongoing transfer window, with the aim of adding reinforcements to the Reds defensive core.
