Bayern Munich’s coach Hansi Flick joked that wantaway star Thiago Alcantara has indicated a desire of extending his stay at the German giants beyond this summer’s transfer window.
The 29-year old Spanish international is rumored to be certain to make the move to Anfield ahead of the upcoming season. Liverpool FC are reportedly the frontrunners in the race to sign the Bayern Munich midfielder after reports emerged that he was not open to agreeing to new terms with the German giants.
Flick’s men completed a historic treble on Sunday night, a second for the Bundesliga outfit in seven years, after a narrow 1-0 victory over Paris-Saint Germain in the UEFA Champions League final. Thiago’s contribution to the Bayern side was immense throughout the competition, with the Spaniard being a focal point in the centre of the park for the club.
Following the trophy lifting presentation, when pressed about Thiago’s future in the Bayern Munich shirt, Flick joked that Thiago was keen on staying at the Allianz Arena next season.
“He told me that he would stay [at Bayern].”
The Bayern Munich boss, however, did admit that he unaware of the player’s future situation amid strong links to the Reds. Thiago’s current deal with the German club expires next summer, and it is understood that the Bundesliga champions does not want to lose out on their star midfielder for nothing.
“I just thanked him. I don’t know [where his future lies], he doesn’t know himself yet.
“We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the next few days.”
