Jurgen Klopp has played down any speculation concerning prospective transfer business to be done by Liverpool FC this summer. The Premier League-winning coach has often reiterated in the past of his side’s inability to make big-money moves due to the financial constraints brought on by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.
Instead, the Anfield giants have been reported to be interested in making bargain signings, something that has proved to be very successful for the club in the past. Greek defender Kostas Tsimikas arrived from Olympiacos in a deal worth £11.75 million to strengthen the defensive squad depth of the Reds.
Bayern Munich maestro Thiago Alcantara is another key target for Jurgen Klopp’s side heading into next season, however, the Liverpool FC boss has been reluctant to give into media speculation to admit his interest in making a move for the Spanish international when pressed upon the present situation.
“There are a lot of interesting players out there, but if someone is interesting for us I can´t say right now.
“Due to COVID, you have to think five times about what you can and what you can´t do. We always have to pay attention to the financial aspect.
Klopp did admit that some clubs would still be in the market to make a flurry of new signings to improve the present condition of the squad, with the German naming Chelsea as an example of the same. However, Klopp remains confident in his team’s abilities to defend their Premier League crown next season.
While admitting that there could be further signings to be made by the Merseyside club, the present Liverpool FC first-team squad does not worry him, expressed Klopp.
“We don´t know how much money will come in. Nobody knows, but it seems like some other teams have a more positive outlook on the future. If you take a look at Chelsea, for example, yeah!
“But I am very happy with my team right now. If something transfer-related will happen, we have to see.”
