Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has said that he could not imagine leaving Anfield in 2022 following his decision to extend his contract at the club.
The German boss has led the Premier League giants to Champions League glory last term in June and is on the verge of guiding Liverpool to their first Premier League title in 30 years. But there was more good news to follow as the 52-year-old extended his deal at the Merseyside outfit until 2024 this Friday.
Klopp has revealed that the position Liverpool was in meant he could not see himself leaving the club at the end of his previous contract which was set to expire in 2022. The Liverpool head coach has also had a fantastic start to the new season guiding the team to the summit of the Premier League table opening up a 10 point lead in front of 2nd placed Leicester City.
Following the 2-0 victory against Watford on Sunday, Klopp admitted that he could not imagine leaving Liverpool anytime soon because of the people that he has come across around here, “I couldn’t imagine I would leave, That was the moment I thought we can start thinking about how long do I want to stay? I have no clue how long it will be in the end, but it was not possible for me to imagine that I would leave in 2022 because of the people we have and what we have created here.”
He further added that he wanted to remain in Liverpool with his family, “It was not that I went to the club and said, ‘come on, let’s have a new contract’. The club started the talks and then we realized – together with my family – that it is the right thing to do. I liked the idea more and more.”
