In a recent turn of events that could potentially affect the Gini Wijnaldum and FC Barcelona transfer saga, talks between the Liverpool FC midfielder and Jurgen Klopp have been reportedly gone in favor of the player extending his stay at Anfield beyond this summer’s transfer window.
The La Liga giants, in the aftermath of Ronald Koeman taking the manager’s hot seat at the club, were being tipped to land Wijnaldum’s signature. The Dutch international’s current deal with the Reds’ expires next summer, following which the 29-year old would become a free agent.
However, speculation of late had suggested that Wijnaldum was keen on signing an extension to his contract at the Premier League champions. The midfielder has enjoyed a superb spell in the Reds’ shirt since signing for the Anfield giants in 2016, winning both the Premier League and the Champions League.
Liverpool FC, meanwhile, were also understood to be on the forefront of tabling an improved deal to the player ahead of the 2020-21 season. Jurgen Klopp had repeatedly attempted to play down rumor-mongering of Wijnaldum being close to signing for Barca before the ongoing transfer window closes in the first week of October.
