Inter Milan are reportedly pushing for Liverpool target Nicolo Barella to sign new terms at San Siro and commit his long-term future to the Serie A holders.
Barella had enjoyed a brilliant campaign for both club and country last time around and was instrumental in Italy’s triumph at the 2020 UEFA European Championships, adding to his credentials as one of the top midfield talents in world football.
Liverpool were credited with a strong interest in making a move for the 24-year-old in the summer window with Jurgen Klopp on the lookout for reinforcements to bolster his midfield roster following Gini Wijnaldum’s departure from the Anfield camp.
Reports from Italian news outlet Calcio Mercato suggest that Inter Milan are in line to ward off the increasing interest in Barella’ services from elsewhere and are hoping to tie down the Italian to extended terms.
The midfielder’s stay at San Siro comes to a close in the summer of 2024 and his representatives are working hard to ensure Barella gets a major bump in his wages should Inter be keen on him penning a new long-term deal.
