Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has admitted to being resigned to the possibility of Liverpool FC target Thiago Alcantara leaving the UEFA Champions League winners in this summer’s transfer window.
The 29-year old Thiago has been relentlessly pushing for a move from the German giants after declining to extend his deal with the club. With just a year remaining on his existing contract with the Bundesliga holders, Rummenigge had previously reiterated his desire to not lose out on the player for free next summer.
The Bayern CEO had earlier spoken about Thiago’s desire to play in another major league with the Spanish international nearing the age of 30. The ex-FC Barcelona man is believed to be wanting to experience the Premier League, with a keen desire to play for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
And now Rummenigge, a former Bayern player himself, has noted how Thiago’s body language during his side’s celebrations post their Champions League victory over Paris Saint-Germain indicated the player’s exit from the Allianz Arena this summer.
“Yesterday, we had an event with our employees at Allianz Arena, and Thiago’s whole family were there.”
“They walked around in great nostalgia; I would almost say.”
“It looked very much like he had decided to say goodbye.”
The Anfield giants are leading the race to sign Thiago, according to speculation over the past few months. However, Rummenigge confirmed that there had been no contact as of yet between Bayern and the Merseyside outfit over a possible deal for the midfielder.
“We have read a lot about Liverpool, but they haven’t contacted us yet.”
