‘It’s disrespectful towards Liverpool’s midfield’- Carragher on Thiago transfer claims

Reds’ legendary centre-back Jamie Carragher has voiced his disapproval of the Merseyside club’s supporters’ calls for their side to make a move for Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara, with the ex-England international claiming it to be a disservice to the present Liverpool FC midfield stars.

Thiago has emerged as the primary candidate to join the Anfield giants in the ongoing transfer window, should Jurgen Klopp make a second signing for his side this summer. Kostas Tsimikas is the sole player brought in by the Reds after their Premier League title glory last season.

The Bayern midfielder’s links with a switch to the Merseyside has been rampant over the past few months. Thiago’s reluctance to extend his current deal with the Bundesliga giants, that is set to expire next summer, led to further speculation of the Spaniard desiring of playing for Klopp’s side.

However, Carragher believes despite the 29-year old being a fantastic player who would shake things up for Liverpool FC at the centre of the park, the present midfield options at the club are equally talented as well.

‘I think the huge clamour for Thiago is a little bit disrespectful to Liverpool’s current midfield three,’ the former Reds defender told Sky Sports on Saturday.

‘Yes he would add something different, no doubt. But if he doesn’t come in, it’s not the end of the world, this is still a fantastic midfield for Liverpool.’

The summer transfer window shuts down on 4th October, prior to which Klopp has time to secure Thiago’s singing should Bayern Munich relent to a lower asking price for the Spanish international.
