Jamie Carragher wants Liverpool to sign a new midfielder this summer to add to their options in the centre of the park heading into the new season’s start.
The Reds have been in top form over the course of the ongoing season with Jurgen Klopp’s men competing for a historic quadruple in what are now the final few weeks of the campaign.
Squad strength at Anfield has never been better, according to many, with Liverpool landing Luis Diaz to add more firepower to their attacking lineup while Ibrahima Konate’s arrival last summer shored up the backline.
Liverpool’s lack of quality options in midfield, however, has invited a suggestion from Reds great Jamie Carragher who reckons that Klopp should dip into the market for a fresh face to bolster his ranks.
Speaking on the Its A Funny Old Life podcast, the Sky Sports pundit claimed that with the likes of Henderson, Thiago and Fabinho around the age of 30, Liverpool should look to bring in a younger option for their midfield roster.
“I just think in the summer, I think the one position would be midfield for me.
“I think if you look at our first-choice midfield now you’ve got: Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago there all around 30, there all around there.
“Obviously Naby Keita’s done very well against Man City but you can never fully trust him injury wise and the other three are all that age, Milner’s obviously a lot older now and I think Oxlade-Chamberlain will move on.
“You’ve got Curtis Jones there but I just think one more who’s around the 23/24 age to go in there is probably something that we need”.
