Joe Gomez considering his future elsewhere

Despite continuous rumors surrounding Joe Gomez’s future at Liverpool, the Reds will try to sign him to a new contract this summer.

With his contract scheduled to end in 2024, Joe Gomez has been linked with a transfer away from Liverpool ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

Gomez’s contract at Anfield will end within 24 months and there is a feeling around the player’s camp that an imminent departure is on the cards for the Englishmen.

Following his recovery from a significant knee injury in pre-season, he was limited to just seven Premier League matches and ten starts across all competitions at Anfield this season.

The 24-year-old England international has seen very little game action this season and is also behind Van Dijk, Matip, and Konate in the pecking order for a starting XI spot.

As a result of spending most of his game time as a back-up to Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back, the defender has been linked with a move ahead of the 2022 World Cup, with the England international hoping to secure a recall to Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions.

Despite his lack of playing time this season, Gomez is still a part of Liverpool’s plans, according to Liverpool Echo, who claim Julian Ward has been charged with trying to sign the defender to a new contract this summer.

They recognize, however, that such a potential may be more difficult to achieve depending on how the defender views his own circumstances.

Jurgen Klopp’s contract extension until 2026 has put the Merseyside club on the edge of a bright future, and it would be heartbreaking for some Liverpool fans to see the youngster leave the club after being a part of some unforgettable moments in a Liverpool shirt.
