Joe Gomez has spoken about Liverpool FC’s pre-season training camp in Austria being a great bonding experience for Jurgen Klopp’s side. The English international has revealed that the off-the-pitch activities for the Reds squad has been beneficial towards their success on the pitch in recent times.
The 23-year old defender defined the Anfield giants’ training sessions as a very healthy environment to get to know other squad members really well. Moreover, Gomez stated that it has been a very fun experience along with his teammates to soak in Austria’s natural beauty amid their pre-season friendly fixtures.
“It’s a healthy environment and definitely a plus.”
“Just being able to have that banter with each other and be able to rub it in each other’s face in something that’s not always football, it just helps and sort of takes the edge off things when you do it on the pitch.”
Gomez also outlined Liverpool FC’s intentions of giving their best to defeat Arsenal when the two sides meet this weekend in the FA Community Shield clash. The game, that will be played at the Wembley Stadium, will offer the first trophy up for grabs in the 2020-21 season of English top-flight football.
“In terms of the game the other day, I think a lot of us had in mind, ‘In a week from now we play in the Community Shield.”
“Even though it’s a short break, it’s obviously important we hit the ground running and in less than a week now there’s a trophy up for grabs.”
The ex-Charlton man will be a key figure in Klopp’s squad next season as Liverpool FC aim to defend their Premier League crown against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea. Gomez’s formidable center-back pairing with Virgil van Dijk was hailed by many as a major contributing factor towards the Reds ending a 30-year wait for Premier League glory.
