Merseyside legend John Aldridge lauded Fabinho’s display at centre-back in what was a man of the match performance from the 26-year old in Liverpool FC’s 2-0 away win at Chelsea on Sunday.
Fielded in a rather unusual role alongside Virgil van Dijk at the heart of the four-man backline, Fabinho was a tremendous performer against the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz, keeping the German international duo at arm’s length over the course of the 90 minutes at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian’s brilliant defensive display garnered high praise from Aldridge, an ex-Liverpool FC star-striker and an extremely vocal supporter of the Anfield giants long after his retirement. Aldridge applauded the player’s showing against Frank Lampard’s newly-restructured Chelsea XI in a post on his official Twitter handle.
Excellent win even against 10 men for 45 mins!!Mane brilliant Thiago class and has I said before the game on the Fabinho slant!he can save the club 30 million if he’s happy to be a 4th C half,he was immense.Played 2 Won 2 👍🏻ynwa

The former Reds’ attacker even went up ahead to back Fabinho for fulfilling the role of a fourth-choice centre-back at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, a position that has become vacant since Dejan Lovren left Anfield for Zenit earlier this summer.
It remains to be seen whether the Liverpool FC boss will repeat his decision to play Fabinho as a central defender any time soon, however, with Joel Matip’s constant injury woes, the likelihood of seeing Fabinho as a centre-back is not too distant.
