Liverpool FC legend John Barnes has warned Jurgen Klopp against making any major signings this summer for the Reds. The former Liverpool FC winger believes that new acquisitions in the summer could disrupt the harmony enjoyed by the current Reds squad.
Barnes added that he believes Klopp would be looking to strengthen his squad by replacing the players who eventually leave Anfield in the coming months. Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren are tipped to depart the 2019-20 Premier League champions in the summer.
The former English international stated that the inability of a new highly-rated player to break into the current Reds side would damage the Merseyside club’s harmony. Barnes said that the current Liverpool FC squad is apt enough to defend their Premier League crown next season.
Liverpool FC have been linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star player Jadon Sancho in recent months. Klopp has publicly admitted his admiration for the English starlet, however, has stated that it is highly unlikely for the Reds to sign Sancho this summer.
The Reds had previously been considered the frontrunner in the race to sign German international Timo Werner. However, due to qualms over his £50 million release clause, Jurgen Klopp decided to withdraw interest from signing the 24-year old striker. Instead, Chelsea FC swooped in and concluded a deal for the RB Leipzig player in a matter of weeks.
Barnes said that with players like Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi in his squad, Jurgen Klopp does have prolific attackers at his disposal. However, Minimano has struggled to adapt since signing for the Reds earlier this year from RB Salzburg. The Japan international is yet to score his first goal for the Reds in a competitive fixture.
Liverpool FC boasts of significant options in their midfield department as well. Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Naby Keita, and Chamberlain, all are proven game-changers for the Premier League champions.
Moreover, there is anticipation regarding the development of academy graduate Curtis Jones, who has been impressive this season. The player performed exceptionally well in the FA Cup ties against Arsenal and Everton. Klopp would be hoping to count on his Liverpool FC young prospects to fill in the gaps for the departing players next season.
