According to a report from The Athletic, Liverpool FC midfield star and club captain Jordan Henderson is being thought of as a potential makeshift centre-back option by Jurgen Klopp following Joe Gomez’s injury setback meaning that the boss has Joel Matip as the only fit centre-back available at his disposal.
It is being speculated that central midfield duo of Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum may be used by Klopp as emergency options in the central defender role alongside Matip following the conclusion of the ongoing international break and before January’s winter transfer window, in which the Reds will surely make a signing or two to solve the ongoing crisis.
A number of midfield options at Liverpool FC would make it easier for Klopp to draft Henderson in the centre-back spot, especially with summer signing Thiago Alcantara understood to be on the verge of making a return to the first-team fold after his own injury problem had sidelined him for the last six games for his new side.
Klopp will take further look on his centre-back shortlist ahead of the forthcoming transfer window, with names such as Brighton’s Ben White and ex-Watford defender Daryl Janmaat being suggested to be high on the Reds’ transfer radar.
