Liverpool legend Danny Murphy has overlooked the likes of Georginio Wijnaldum and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain hailing Jordan Henderson as Jurgen Klopp’s most integral cog in midfield.
The Merseyside giants have seen impressive units at opposing ends of the pitch dominate headlines during a period of sustained success over the recent past. The front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have burgeoned over the past few seasons, while Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold have become reliable figures as the final line of the Liverpool defence.
However, Jurgen Klopp’s engine room appears to be just as important to the collective cause charged with the tasks of scoring and preventing goals. With the likes of Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Keita, Shaqiri, Milner and Oxlade-Chamberlain at Liverpool’s disposal, Liverpool legend Danny Murphy has outlined Jordan Henderson as the key star in Liverpool’s midfield system.
While speaking to the club’s official website, the 43-year-old Danny Murphy explained why the 29-year-old Jordan Henderson is the pick of his bunch among a number of top-quality midfielders at Liverpool.
The former England international began by claiming that he appreciates each and every one of the midfielders at Liverpool but one player whose absence on the pitch is felt by fans is club captain Jordan Henderson, “I appreciate them all, to be honest, in terms of their ability to fit in. Very rarely do you watch Liverpool play and think, ‘Oh, they’re weaker today. Jordan is probably the one biggest miss when he doesn’t play, partly because of his leadership as well. I’m a big fan of Wijnaldum. He’s very good on the ball and in tight positions. Very, very often he is one of those players who wriggles out of a little tight situation and gets Liverpool on the front foot.”
Henderson has been integral to the Liverpool system and Klopp’s demanding style of play. Henderson’s impressive displays this season have put him in the running for the PFA Player Of The Year award.
