Liverpool FC skipper Jordan Henderson made a return to the Reds’ training sessions as the Premier League champions embark upon their pre-season routine while in Austria. The 30-year old had been missing from action since sustaining a knee injury against Brighton in early-July.
Henderson was seen taking part in standard warm-up practices as he hopes to progress his recovery in time for the start of the next season. He was joined by teammate Joel Matip, who like the Reds captain, also returns following a lengthy spell on the sidelines owing to a foot injury.
The injury suffered by the English international had forced him to miss Liverpool FC’s remaining four games of the 2019-20 campaign. Nevertheless, Henderson had been in attendance to lift the Premier League title for his side following Liverpool FC’s 5-3 victory over Chelsea last month.
The former Sunderland star had been in stellar form for the Reds across their title-winning season. By doing so, Henderson became the first captain to lead the Anfield giants to league title glory in 30 years. He also skippered the Reds to victories in the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup last year.
The 2019-20 season was a monumental one for the player on a personal note as well, with the midfielder being widely acknowledged for his influence on Jurgen Klopp’s side both on and off the pitch. Henderson was also honored with the Liverpool’s Standard Chartered Men’s Player of the Season, a first for the midfielder during his nine-year stint at the Merseyside club.
