Jordan Henderson reveals the secret behind his famous trophy life ‘shuffle’

The Reds captain Jordan Henderson has revealed the secret behind his famous trophy lift ‘shuffle’, which has become a tradition for the Liverpool FC skipper since the club’s victory in the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.

The player has since repeated the ‘shuffle’ after leading his team to consecutive wins in the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup, becoming the first English team to complete a historic International treble in the process. 

Now, the Reds fan favourite Henderson, who has donned the captain’s armband since the departure of Liverpool FC legend Steven Gerrard, has lifted the lid on the story behind him performing the ‘shuffle’ during the trophy lift presentation.

The English midfielder stated that locker-room banter between the teammates at the Premier League club with left-back Andy Robertson pretending to lift a trophy while doing a ‘shuffle’.

Henderson insisted that his trophy lifting celebration, which has since become iconic, was not pre-planned. Moreover, the Reds captain added that he felt every bit of emotion inside him when he lifted the Champions League last season.  

While lifting the trophy, Henderson shuffled towards the podium, shifting from his one foot to another, before turning and hoisting the cup into the air. Such an activity caused greater anticipation among his teammates and the onlooking Liverpool FC fans. Henderson added that he wanted to see the faces of his teammates at the club, before lifting the trophy, as it was an extraordinary moment for the squad. 

The Reds captain described the moment of lifting UEFA Champions League as magical, adding that it was the best feeling of his playing career. 

After winning the Champions League, Liverpool FC went on to win two more trophies last year by getting their hands on the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup. 

The Merseyside club are eager to wrap the current Premier League season, by winning the title which has been awaited by the club for 30 years. The Premier League season is set to resume on 17th June, and Liverpool will face their arch-rivals Everton FC in their first match since the league’s restart.
