When the final whistle of the Chelsea FC Vs Manchester City FC game blew, Liverpool FC fans all around the world cheered. Chelsea FC’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City FC meant that the Reds were going to be crowned the 2019-20 Premier League champions, their first league title in 30 years.
Reds skipper Jordan Henderson stated how proud he felt after captaining the Liverpool FC side to the Premier League title. The English international described the moments following the Chelsea FC game’s final whistle as an amazing feeling.
According to Henderson, the fact that the Reds came very close to winning the title in 2014 and 2019, helped the Liverpool FC side to regroup and challenge for it this season. Moreover, losing out on the league title to Manchester City FC on both occasions served as an additional incentive for the Reds to claim Premier League glory.
Henderson voiced his pride in being a part of the Liverpool FC club for nine years now. The midfielder has signed for the Reds in 2011 from his boyhood side Sunderland. Since then, the 29-year old has become one of the most important players in the Liverpool FC squad.
Henderson succeeded club legend Steven Gerrard as the Liverpool FC captain when the former departed for LA Galaxy in 2015. Although he is subject to constant public scepticism, Henderson has impressed even his fiercest critics with his spectacular performances this season for the Reds. The Liverpool FC skipper is a major contender for the PFA Player of the Year honour, which is to be awarded soon.
The former Sunderland man added that despite a great run of results by the Merseyside club, the players did not get carried away. Henderson stated that that the Liverpool FC side possesses the mentality of always ‘staying hungry’. Such a mindset helped the Reds clinch the Champions League and the Premier League in a span of one year.
Even after being crowned the Premier League champions, Hendersons insists that his team’s focus is now onto their next match. Liverpool FC will next visit Manchester City FC on 2nd July, with the Premier League title race having already been decided in favour of the Reds.
