According to football pundit Jose Mourinho, Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have already won the title following the 3-1 victory over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City last Sunday.
The Reds overcame the Premier League champions when they hammered Manchester City at Anfield to open up an eight-point lead at the summit of the Premier League table. Leicester City and Chelsea occupy the 2nd and third place respectively with 26 points but after just 12 games in the English top-flight, Liverpool seems to be over the hills and pulling away from their title rivals.
Without a title for 30 years, the Anfield faithful are getting desperate with each passing season and former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho believes that it seems unlikely that Liverpool could throw away such a lead.
The 56-year-old Portuguese manager admitted that he does not see Liverpool throwing their lead unless there is a major injury to a key player.
While speaking to Sky Sports, the Special One said that Liverpool has the complete puzzle and that is why the title is done, “If you are behind [in the title race], you have to feel like you can reach them. If you are top of the league with a big advantage, you have to feel like it is not over. But I am not there, I’m here. And here, from my position, I think it’s done unless something dramatic happens in terms of an injury situation that breaks the team. But I think the team is a complete puzzle. I feel the way they play is adapted to the qualities of the players.”
Mourinho concluded by saying that Manchester City also have the capacity to go on a long unbeaten streak but this lead by Liverpool seems unassailable at the moment, “City are capable of winning seven, eight, nine matches in a row, but I can’t see how Liverpool can lose this advantage of nine points to them.”
Last season, Liverpool finished the season only one point behind Manchester City despite their best season by attaining 97 points throughout the campaign.
